The purpose of the Order is to authorise the Secretary of State to impose trunk road status on the lengths of highways described in the Schedule to this Order.

Two new roundabouts have been constructed on the A61 on either side of the A1(M) Motorway at Junction 50 (Baldersby Interchange), which together form a ‘dumbbell roundabout’ arrangement at this grade separated junction over the A1(M). In order to take responsibility for managing and maintaining the entire Baldersby Interchange, the Secretary of State will become the highway authority for the highways described in the Schedule to this Order.
