# The Child Benefit (Rates) (Amendment) Regulations 2008, Introduction: Introductory text

The Treasury make the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 145(1) and (2) and 147(1) of the Social Security Contributions and Benefits Act 1992 and sections 141(1) and (2) and 173(1) of the Social Security Contributions and Benefits (Northern Ireland) Act 1992 and now vested in them.
In accordance with section 176(1) of the Social Security Contributions and Benefits Act 1992 and section 172(10)(b) of the Social Security Contributions and Benefits (Northern Ireland) Act 1992, a draft of this instrument was laid before Parliament and approved by a resolution of each House of Parliament.
