# The Copyright and Rights in Databases Regulations 1997, Introduction: Introductory text

RIGHTS IN DATABASES
Made 18th December 1997
Coming into force 1st January 1998
Whereas a draft of the following Regulations has been approved by a resolution of each House of Parliament:
Now, therefore, the Secretary of State, being a Minister designated for the purposes of section 2(2) of the European Communities Act 1972 in relation to measures relating to copyright and measures relating to the prevention of unauthorised extraction of the contents of a database and of unauthorised re-utilisation of those contents, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 2(2) and (4) of that Act, hereby makes the following Regulations:—
