Explanatory note
(This note is not part of the Regulations)
These Regulations amend the Dartford-Thurrock Crossing Regulations 1989 in the following ways.
First, by substituting for the old regulation 2 a new one to ensure that, once the bridge is open, certain specified abnormal loads do not use it without the crossing operator’s consent. The new regulation 2 replicates the old in so far as use of the tunnels by abnormal loads is concerned.
Secondly, by substituting for the old regulation 5 a new one which (a) increases the charges to be made in respect of vehicles above a specified width or length which use the crossing and (b) introduces a charge to be made in respect of vehicles above a specified weight which use the crossing. (These charges are in addition to any tolls which may be levied in respect of those vehicles.)
Thirdly, by increasing the minimum and three of the four additional charges used to calculate the fee payable under regulation 12 of the 1989 Regulations in respect of the attendance at or the removal of a vehicle which has broken down on the crossing.
Finally, by ensuring that regulation 6 of the 1989 Regulations refers to the sixth, and latest, edition of the booklet entitled “Dangerous Traffic”.
