Explanatory note

These Regulations amend the Aeroplane Noise Regulations 1999. They make provision to implement the Community obligations of the United Kingdom contained in Commission Directive 1999/28/EC of 21 April 1999^f1. This Directive amends the Annex to Council Directive 92/14/EEC of 2 March 1992 on the limitation of the operation of aeroplanes covered by Part II, Chapter 2, Volume 1 of Annex 16 to the Convention on International Civil Aviation, second edition (1988) as amended by Council Directive 98/20/EC of 30 March 1998^f2.

The Schedule to the Aeroplane Noise Regulations 1999 lists certain aeroplanes of developing countries which are excepted from the requirement to be certified to the standards specified in Chapter 3 of the 1988 edition of Volume 1 of Annex 16.

These Regulations remove aeroplanes from that Schedule which have been destroyed or removed from the register of the relevant developing nation.
