Explanatory note
(This note is not part of the Order)
This Order gives effect to a Scheme of the Charity Commissioners for the Charity known as the Cheadle Royal Hospital, which is regulated by the Manchester Royal Infirmary Acts of 1842 and 1933 and the Manchester Royal Infirmary (Cheadle Royal Hospital) Order 1949.
The Cheadle Royal Hospital became increasingly difficult for the Charity to operate as a hospital. The Charity sold the hospital undertaking and the hospital site for a full price to a commercial company under a management buy out arrangement. Subsequently, it was decided that the Charity should operate as a grant-making organisation.
The Scheme provides new objects and powers for the Charity which enable it to operate as a grant-making organisation. The Scheme restructures the Trustee Body and provides new arrangements for its operation and the holding of its investments.
