# The Merchant Shipping (Fire Protection) Regulations 2023, Introduction: Introductory text


Draft Regulations laid before Parliament under paragraph 13(1) of Schedule 8 to the European Union (Withdrawal) Act 2018, for approval by resolution of each House of Parliament.

The Secretary of State, after consulting the persons referred to in section 86(4) of the Merchant Shipping Act 1995, and in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 85(1), (3)(a), (c), (d), (e), (f), (h), (i), (j) and (n), and (5) to (7), 86(1)(a), (b), (c) and (d), 302(1) and 306A of that Act, and with the consent of the Treasury, makes the following Regulations.
In accordance with paragraph 13(1) of Schedule 8 to the European Union (Withdrawal) Act 2018, a draft of this instrument has been laid before Parliament and approved by resolution of each House of Parliament.
