# The Parental Leave (EU Directive) Regulations 2013, Introduction: Introductory text


Draft Regulations laid before Parliament under section 236(3) of the Employment Rights Act 1996 and paragraph 2(2) of Schedule 2 to the European Communities Act 1972, for approval by resolution of each House of Parliament.

The Secretary of State is a Minister designated for the purposes of section 2(2) of the European Communities Act 1972 in relation to employment rights and duties.
The Secretary of State makes the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by section 2(2) of the European Communities Act 1972 and section 76(2) of the Employment Rights Act 1996.
In accordance with paragraph 2(2) of Schedule 2 to the 1972 Act and section 236(3) of the 1996 Act, a draft of this instrument was laid before Parliament and approved by a resolution of each House of Parliament.
