Article 29 Teaching qualifications: primary and secondary education
It is for the GTCS to determine what constitutes a recognised teaching qualification for individuals seeking registration as a school teacher.
A determination may make such provision about the education and training required to attain such a qualification as the GTCS thinks fit.
A determination may, in particular, make provision about—
institutions providing courses of education and training for teachers;
the qualifications of persons employed by institutions providing courses of education and training for teachers;
the admission of individuals to such courses;
the content, nature and duration of such courses;
the assessment of individuals undertaking such courses;
the functions of the governing bodies, principals and members of staff of institutions providing those courses.
A determination may make different provision for different types of school teachers or institutions or otherwise for different purposes.
Before making or varying a determination, the GTCS must—
consult—
institutions providing courses of education and training for teachers or their representatives;
the Scottish Ministers; and
such other persons appearing to it to have an interest; and
have regard to any views expressed by those consulted.
The GTCS must publish determinations.
