  "heading": "WASTE DISPOSAL OPERATIONS",
  "text": "NB. This Part of this Schedule is intended to list disposal operations such as they occur in practice. In accordance with Article 13 of the Directive waste must be disposed of without endangering human health and without the use of processes or methods likely to harm the environment.\nOperation Code\nDescription\n(1)The operations listed in this Part of this Schedule are listed in accordance with Annex I of the Directive.\nD1\nDeposit into or onto land (e.g. landfill etc.).\nD2\nLand treatment (e.g. biodegradation of liquid or sludge discards in soils, etc.).\nD3\nDeep injection (e.g. injection of pumpable discards into wells, salt domes or naturally occurring repositories, etc.).\nD4\nSurface impoundment (e.g. placement of liquid or sludge discards into pits, ponds or lagoons, etc.).\nD5\nSpecially engineered landfill (e.g. placement into lined discrete cells which are capped and isolated from one another and the environment, etc.).\nD6\nRelease into a water body except seas/oceans.\nD7\nRelease into seas/oceans including sea-bed insertion.\nD8\nBiological treatment not listed elsewhere in this Part of this Schedule which results in final compounds or mixtures which are discarded by means of any of the operations listed as D1 to D12 in this Part of this Schedule.\nD9\nPhysico-chemical treatment not listed elsewhere in this Part of this Schedule which results in final compounds or mixtures which are discarded by means of any of the operations listed as D1 to D12 in this Part of this Schedule (e.g. evaporation drying, calcination, etc.).\nD10\nIncineration on land.\nD11\nIncineration at sea.\nD12\nPermanent storage (emplacement of containers in a mine, etc.).\nD13\nBlending or mixing of waste prior to submission to any of the operations listed as D1 to D12 in this Part of this Schedule.\nIf there is no other D code appropriate, this may include preliminary operations prior to disposal, including pre-processing such as sorting, crushing, compacting, pelletising, drying, shredding, conditioning or separating prior to submission to any of operations D1 to D12.\nD14\nRepackaging of waste prior to submission to any of the operations listed as D1 to D13 in this Part of this Schedule.\nD15\nStorage of waste pending any of the operations listed as D1 to D14 in this Part of this Schedule, but excluding preliminary storage referred to in Article 3(10) of the Directive, pending collection, on the site where the waste is produced.",
