# The Wireless Telegraphy Act 2006 (Directions to OFCOM) (Revocation) Order 2026, Note: Explanatory note

(This note is not part of the Order)
This Order revokes the Wireless Telegraphy Act 2006 (Directions to OFCOM) Order 2010 (“2010 Order”), through which the Secretary of State gave a number of directions to the Office of Communications (“OFCOM”). The directions were to vary wireless telegraphy licences, to amend spectrum trading regulations to allow the trading of licences, to amend regulations setting charges for the grant of a licence and to make regulations to set the rules for an auction of licences to use frequencies. The purposes of the 2010 Order are served, and the 2010 Order is now redundant.
These purposes were, as set out in article 2 of the 2010 Order as amended by article 4(2) of the Radio Spectrum (EU Exit) Regulations 2018, to ensure the release of additional electromagnetic spectrum for use by providers of next generation wireless mobile broadband, to allow early deployment and maximising the coverage of those services and to create greater investment certainty for operators.
A full impact assessment has not been produced for this instrument as no, or no significant, impact on the private, voluntary or public sector is foreseen.
