The county was given the name of “Caernarfonshire and Merionethshire” by Schedule 4 to the Local Government Act 1972 (as substituted by the Local Government (Wales) Act 1994) but the county subsequently passed a resolution pursuant to section 74 of the Local Government Act 1972 to change its name to “Gwynedd”. The original name was included in the schedule by error.",
