Article 2 Interpretation

The Interpretation Act 1889 shall apply for the interpretation of this order as it applies for the interpretation of an Act of Parliament.

In this order—

• “non-metropolitan district” means a district in a non-metropolitan county the area of which is defined by reference to the areas specified in respect thereof (by reference to administrative areas existing immediately before the passing of the Local Government Act 1972) in column (2) of the Part of the Schedule to the order of 1972 relating to the county;

• “reference number” in relation to any non-metropolitan district in a non-metropolitan county named in column (1) of the Schedule to this order means the reference number of the district as specified in column (1) of the Part of the Schedule to the order of 1972 relating to the county;

and in these definitions “the order of 1972” means the English dNon-metropolitan Districts (Definition) Order 1972^f1.
