The IB test is a highly specific and sensitive technique based on the use of nitrocellulose strips containing viral proteins as antigens. The specific antibody-antigen reaction is detected by addition of a protein A-peroxidase conjugate and an appropriate substrate. It is very useful to test sera that are inconclusive in the ELISA test.
