Cooperation shall aim at preventing deterioration of the environment, controlling pollution and ensuring the rational use of natural resources, with a view to ensuring sustainable development.\n2. Cooperation shall focus, in particular, on:\ndesertification,\nquality of Mediterranean water and the control and prevention of marine pollution,\nwater resource management,\nenergy management,\nwaste management,\nsalinisation,\nenvironmental management of sensitive coastal areas,\nthe impact of industrial development and the safety of industrial plant in particular,\nthe impact of agriculture on soil and water quality,\nenvironmental education and awareness.",
