The production of cultural statistics is limited at this stage. Moreover, no comprehensive and coherent framework or separate legislation on cultural statistics exists.

In the light of the contribution of the cultural and creative sectors to the achievement of the Lisbon Strategy objectives, cultural statistics also need to be consolidated to ensure a durable and regular production of data (based on various data sources). Comprehensive methodological work is therefore necessary to e.g. better measure the social and economic impact of cultural and creative sectors in a knowledge-based economy.
