Regular costs associated with the operation and maintenance of the ASS, including facility physical security, are to be met by the State responsible for such facilities. This does not cause a problem for ASS hosted and/or operated by developed countries. However, it constitutes a significant challenge with respect to the 36 certified ASS of the IMS which are located in developing countries. Many of these stations have been operating for many years and the installed equipment is now reaching end of life status.
