The Union project to combat the illicit trade in and proliferation of SALW in LAS Member States (2018-2020) is designed to respond to the needs that LAS Member States have expressed in the following priority areas:

  1. Area 1:International SALW transfer control (combating illicit arms flows)
  2. Area 2:Identification and disruption of sources of illicit small arms (capacity-building for law-enforcement agencies)
  3. Area 3:Other small-arms control measures
  4. Area 4:Disarmament, demobilisation and reintegration (DDR)
  5. Area 5:Provision of information relevant to illicit SALW and enhanced SALW control:
  6. 3.1Regional coordination: Cairo inception meeting
  7. 3.2Subregional coordination: subregional workshops
  8. 3.3Assessment missions
  9. 3.4In-country training
  10. 3.5Legislative assistance
  11. 3.6Provision of information in Arabic
  12. 3.7Regional coordination: wrap-up meeting in Cairo
  13. 3.8Project monitoring and evaluation
