  "text": "For the purposes of this Directive, the definitions laid down in Article 2 of Directive 2000/60/EC and in Article 2 of Commission Directive 2009/90/EC of 31 July 2009 laying down, pursuant to Directive 2000/60/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council, technical specifications for chemical analysis and monitoring of water status shall apply.\nIn addition, the following definitions shall apply:\n(1) ‘ matrix ‘ means a compartment of the aquatic environment, namely water, sediment or biota;\n(2) ‘ biota taxon ’ means a particular aquatic taxon within the taxonomic rank ‘ sub-phylum ’ , ‘ class ’ or their equivalent.",
