# Regulation (EC) No 999/2001 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 22 May 2001 laying down rules for the prevention, control and eradication of certain transmissible spongiform encephalopathies, Division 5: Measures concerning mechanically separated meat

... By way of derogation from Article 9(3), it shall be prohibited ... to use bones or bone-in cuts of bovine, ovine and caprine animals for the production of mechanically separated meat.
