| Gaseous compounds | O3, SO2, NO2, NO, HNO3, HNO2, NH3, VOC | With regard to direct effect on vegetation, ozone is in most areas in Europe the most important pollutant. |
| Particulate compounds | SO4 2-, NO3-, NH4+, base cations | For calculating the dry deposition of particulate compounds, measurements should preferably be made with consideration to particle size distribution. |
