"text": "In the Annex to Regulation (EU) No 231/2012, the following new entry is inserted after the entry for food additive E 452(iv):\n‘\nE 456 POTASSIUM POLYASPARTATE\nSynonyms\nDefinition\nPotassium polyaspartate is the potassium salt of polyaspartic acid, produced from L-aspartic acid and potassium hydroxide. The thermic process transforms the aspartic acid in polysuccinimide that is insoluble. Polysuccinimide is treated with potassium hydroxide allowing the opening of the ring and polymerisation of the units. The last step is the spray drying phase, which results in a light tan powder\nCAS number\n64723-18-8\nChemical name\nL-aspartic acid, homopolymer, potassium salt\nChemical formula\n[C4H4NO3K]n\nWeight average molecular weight\nApproximately 5 300 g/mol\nAssay\nNot less than 98 % on dry weight basis\nParticle size\nNot less than 45 μm (not more than 1 % in weight of particles of less than 45 μm)\nDescription\nA light brown odourless powder\nIdentification\nSolubility\nVery soluble in water and slightly soluble in organic solvents\npH\n7,5-8,5 (40 % aqueous solution)\nPurity\nDegree of substitutions\nNot less than 91,5 % on dry weight basis\nLoss on drying\nNot more than 11 % (105 °C,12 hours)\nPotassium hydroxide\nNot more than 2 %\nAspartic acid\nNot more than 1 %\nOther impurities\nNot more than 0,1 %\nArsenic\nNot more than 2,5 mg/kg\nLead\nNot more than 1,5 mg/kg\nMercury\nNot more than 0,5 mg/kg\nCadmium\nNot more than 0,1 mg/kg\n’",
