Article 29 Practical arrangements for official controls for transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSEs)

In addition to the requirements of Regulation (EC) No 999/2001 concerning the official controls to be carried out in relation to TSEs, the official veterinarian shall check the removal, separation and, where appropriate, marking of specified risk material also in accordance with the rules laid down in Article 8(1) of that Regulation and in Article 12 of Regulation (EC) No 1069/2009 on animal by-products.

The official veterinarian shall ensure that the food business operator takes all necessary measures to avoid contaminating meat with specified risk material during slaughter, including stunning. This includes the removal of specified risk material.
