# The Exempt Charities Order 1969, Note: Explanatory note


This Order declares the Open University to be an “exempt charity” within the meaning of the Charities Act 1960. An exempt charity is not required to be registered with the Secretary of State for Education and Science and the Secretary of State cannot exercise any of his powers under that Act in relation to an exempt charity except at the request of the charity.
