# The Fishing Vessels (Safety Provisions) (Amendment) Rules 1998, Introduction: Introductory text


MERCHANT SHIPPING
SAFETY
Made 30th March 1998
Laid before Parliament 7th April 1998
Coming into force 1st May 1998
Whereas the Secretary of State is a Minister designated for the purpose of section 2(2) of the European Communities Act 1972 in relation to measures relating to the safety of ships, and the health and safety of persons on them;
And whereas, in so far as the following Rules are made in the exercise of powers conferred by section 121 of the Merchant Shipping Act 1995 the Secretary of State has in pursuance of subsection (4) of section 306 of that Act consulted organisations he considers will be affected as mentioned in that subsection:
Now, therefore, the Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred by the said section 2(2) of the European Communities Act 1972, and by sections 121 and 307 of the Merchant Shipping Act 1995 and of all other powers enabling him on that behalf, hereby makes the following Rules:
