  "heading": "Variation of a contract: general",
  "text": "(1) Save as provided in sub-paragraph (2), no amendment or variation shall have effect unless it is in writing and signed by or on behalf of the PCT and the contractor.\n(2) In addition to the specific provision made in paragraphs 34(6), 35(6) and 36(3), the PCT may vary the contract without the contractor’s consent where it—\n(a) is reasonably satisfied that it is necessary to vary the contract so as to comply with the Act, any regulations made under the Act, or any direction given by the Secretary of State under the Act; and\n(b) notifies the contractor of the wording of the proposed variation and the date upon which that variation is to take effect,\nand, where it is reasonably practicable to do so, the date that the proposed variation is to take effect shall be not less than 14 days after the date on which the notice under paragraph (b) is served on the contractor.",
