  "heading": "Manner of making application for first examinations or periodical tests, and fees",
  "text": "(1) Any person wishing to have a first examination or periodical test carried out on a vehicle shall make an application for that purpose to the Secretary of State.\n(2) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .\n(3) Every application made under paragraph (1) shall be on a form approved by the Secretary of State, and shall contain the particulars required by that form and shall be accompanied by the fee determined in accordance with the Table below by reference to the description of vehicle.\nTable\n(1)\nDescription of vehicle\n(2)\nFee where first examination or periodical test is carried out at a vehicle testing station provided by the Secretary of State under section 52(2)(a) of the 1988 Act (£)\n(3)\nFee where the first examination or periodical test is carried out at premises designated by the Secretary of State under section 52(2)(b) of the 1988 Act (£)\nMotor vehicle with 2 axles\n112\n91\nMotor vehicle with 3 axles\n144\n113\nMotor vehicle with 4 or more axles\n177\n137\nTrailer with 1 axle\n51\n41\nTrailer with 2 axles\n70\n54\nTrailer with 3 or more axles\n84\n64\n(4) Where the time appointed for a first examination or periodical test is, at the applicant’s request, out of hours, the fee in respect of the examination or test shall be increased by £38.00 in the case of a motor vehicle and £24.00 in the case of a trailer.\n(4A) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .\n(5) Any sum payable by virtue of the first examination or periodical test being, at the applicant’s request, out of hours or taking place at a vehicle testing station designated by the Secretary of State under section 52(2)(b) of the 1988 Act, shall be paid to the Secretary of State at or before the time reserved by him or on his behalf for the examination or test.",
