(This note is not part of the Regulations)
These Regulations are the third commencement regulations under the Ivory Act 2018 (c. 30) (“the Act”). These Regulations bring into force section 37 of the Act, insofar as it is not already in force. The Act prohibits all dealing in ivory, subject to the exemptions set out in sections 2 and 6 to 9.
Regulation 2 brings into force the remaining subsections of section 37 of the Act which relate to the power enabling the appropriate national authority to make regulations to amend the meaning of “ivory” to include ivory from an animal or species that is not covered by section 37(1) of the Act.
A full impact assessment has not been produced for this instrument as no, or no significant, impact on the private, voluntary or public sector is foreseen.
