Article 1

(1)

These Rules may be cited as the Local Elections (Principal Areas) (Amendment) Rules 1990.

(2)

These Rules do not extend to Scotland or Northern Ireland.

(3)

These Rules shall come into force on 3rd March 1990 except that—

(a)

rule 4(8)(b) shall only apply in respect of an election with respect to which section 1 of the Local Government and Housing Act 1989^f1 has effect;

(b)

rules 4(10) and (11)(b) and (c), 5(16) and (17) and 6(8) and (9) shall not apply in respect of an election if the date by which notice of election for that election is required to be published preceded that day; and

(c)

rules 2, 3, 4(3) to (7), (8)(a), (9), (10)(a) and (12), 5(2) to (5), (6)(a), (7), (8), (9)(a) and (c), (10) to (15) and (18) and 6(2), (3), (5)(b), (6) and (10) shall come into force on 1st April 1990.
