Explanatory note
This order provides for a reorganisation of local registration services in and around Greater London in consequence of the reorganisation of local government in Greater London from 1st April 1965.
Schemes will be made by the London borough councils establishing registration districts and sub-districts, determining the location of registration offices and the number of superintendent registrars, registrars of births and deaths and other officers required for the purposes of the Registration Acts.
Except in a few cases, registration officers are transferred by the order on 1st April 1965 to posts allocated to them by the London borough councils. Officers suffering loss of employment or loss or diminution of emoluments will be able to claim compensation under the London Government (Compensation) Regulations 1964.
The order also contains transitional provisions with regard to notices and certificates under the Marriage Act 1949 and marriages to be solemnised before registration officers, and with regard to the registration of births and deaths.
