# The Merchant Shipping (Life-Saving Appliances) (Amendment) Rules 1977, Introduction: Introductory text


MERCHANT SHIPPING
SAFETY
Made 14th February 1977
Laid before Parliament 16th February 1977
Coming into Operation 11th March 1977
The Secretary of State, in exercise of powers conferred by section 427 of the Merchant Shipping Act 1894 as substituted by section 2 of the Merchant Shipping (Safety Convention) Act 1949 and amended by section 9 of the Merchant Shipping Act 1964 and now vested in him, and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Rules:—
