# The Merchant Shipping (Life-Saving Appliances) (Amendment) Rules 1978, Introduction: Introductory text


MERCHANT SHIPPING
SAFETY
Made 19th December 1978
Laid before Parliament 4th January 1979
Coming into Operation 1st February 1979
The Secretary of State, in exercise of powers conferred by section 427 of the Merchant Shipping Act 1894 as substituted by section 2 of the Merchant Shipping (Safety Convention) Act 1949 and amended by section 9 of the Merchant Shipping Act 1964 and now vested in him, and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Rules:—
