# The Merchant Shipping (Ships' Names) (Amendment) Regulations 1988, Note: Explanatory note


(This note is not part of the Regulations)
The Merchant Shipping Act 1988 (c. 12) excluded fishing vessels from registry under Part I of the Merchant Shipping Act 1894 and set up a separate register for fishing vessels under Part II of the 1988 Act.
Following those provisions, these Regulations amend the Merchant Shipping (Ships' Names) Regulations 1979 by confining their application to ships registered under Part I.
