"text": "(1) This regulation sets out for the purposes of regulations 8(9), 12(2), 13(4) and 31(6) how to calculate—\n(a) the total amount of nitrogen in organic manure (“nitrogen content”), and\n(b) the amount of nitrogen in that organic manure that is available for crop uptake in the growing season in which it is spread (“available nitrogen”).\n(2) In relation to livestock manure, the nitrogen content is calculated either by using the standard table in Part 1 of Schedule 2 or by sampling and analysis in accordance with Part 2 of that Schedule.\n(3) In relation to livestock manure of a type set out in the first column of the following table, the available nitrogen is the percentage set out in relation to it in the third column (with the second column being included for ease of reference in connection with assessing compliance with requirements under the regulations in force before the commencement of these Regulations)—\nType of livestock manure\nAmount of nitrogen available for crop uptake in the growing season in which it is spread before 1st January 2014\nAmount of nitrogen available for crop uptake in the growing season in which it is spread on and after 1st January 2014\nCattle slurry\n35%\n40%\nPig slurry\n45%\n50%\nPoultry manure\n30%\n30%\nOther livestock manure\n10%\n10%\n(4) In relation to organic manure (other than livestock manure) which is supplied by a manufacturer or other supplier, the nitrogen content and the available nitrogen are to be calculated—\n(a) by reference to the supplier’s technical analyses or, in so far as such information is unavailable, the values given in the Fertiliser Manual (and referred to there as “total nitrogen” and “nitrogen available for the next crop” respectively), or\n(b) by sampling and analysis in accordance with Part 2 of Schedule 2.\n(5) In relation to any other organic manure (other than livestock manure), the nitrogen content and the available nitrogen are to be calculated—\n(a) by reference to the values given in the Fertiliser Manual (and referred to there as described in paragraph (4)(a)), or\n(b) by sampling and analysis in accordance with Part 2 of Schedule 2.\n(6) In the case of an organic manure for which no value is established for the purposes of a provision referred to in paragraph (1), the occupier may not spread it in reliance on that provision on a crop referred to in regulation 12 or 13.\n(7) The reference in paragraph (4)(a) to the supplier’s technical analyses is a reference to the technical analyses carried out by the supplier and either provided to the occupier concerned or otherwise published by the supplier.\n(8) In this regulation, “the Fertiliser Manual” means the Fertiliser Manual RB209, 8th edition.",
