  "text": "The Pneumoconiosis etc. (Workers' Compensation) Act 1979 provides for lump sum compensation to be paid by the Secretary of State to persons disabled by a disease to which the Act applies or to dependants of persons who immediately before they died were disabled by such a disease. The diseases covered by the Act are pneumoconiosis, byssinosis, diffuse mesothelioma and such other diseases as are specified by the Secretary of State. This Order, which comes into operation on 1st January 1986, specifies the following additional diseases:—\n(a) primary carcinoma of the lung where there is accompanying evidence of one or both of the following:—\n(i) asbestosis\n(ii) bilateral diffuse pleural thickening;\n(b) bilateral diffuse pleural thickening.",
