Explanatory note

These Regulations amend provisions in the Police Regulations 2003 (S.I. 2003/527) (“the 2003 Regulations”) that relate to part-time appointments and leave.
Regulation 3 amends regulation 5 of the 2003 Regulations to remove the requirement on chief officers to consult with local representatives of the representative bodies before appointing persons as part-time members of their force. It also ensures that part-time members are treated in the same way as full-time members in respect of probation and overtime.
Regulation 4 amends regulation 33 of the 2003 Regulations so that annual leave may be granted and taken for any length of time and not just for periods of days and half days.
