  "text": "(1) An appointment of an individual as a constable has effect only where the individual has made a declaration in the following terms before a sheriff , summary sheriff or justice of the peace—\n“I, do solemnly, sincerely and truly declare and affirm that I will faithfully discharge the duties of the office of constable with fairness, candour, integrity, diligence and impartiality, that I will follow the Code of Ethics for Policing in Scotland and that I will uphold fundamental human rights and accord equal respect to all people, according to law.”.\n(2) The Scottish Ministers may by order modify the declaration.",
