  "text": "(1) Subject to paragraph (2), a member of a police force ... who —\n(a) is promoted to, or\n(b) is qualified by virtue of regulation 3(5) for promotion to, and has been appointed to the force ... in, the rank of sergeant shall be on probation in that rank for a period of one year or for such longer period as the chief officer of police ... may determine in the circumstances of the particular case.\n(2) If the chief officer of police ... considers that a person who is on probation in the rank of sergeant is unlikely to perform the duties of that rank satisfactorily he may reduce him to the rank of constable.\n(3) This regulation shall not apply to a person who is completing , or has completed, the work-based assessment under Part II ... of the qualifying assessment.",
