# The Police (Promotion) (Scotland) Amendment Regulations 1988, Note: Explanatory note

(This note is not part of the Regulations)
These Regulations amend regulation 4 of the Police (Promotion) (Scotland) Regulations 1968 (which relates to the period of probation for a constable promoted to sergeant). They enable a chief constable to extend the period of probation beyond one year in any particular case. They also make express provision for a chief constable to reduce a sergeant to the rank of constable at any time during his period of probation if he considers that the officer is not likely to perform satisfactorily the duties of a sergeant.
