Regulation 8 Ranks

The ranks of a police force shall be known by the following designations:—

  • Chief Constable.

  • Deputy Chief Constable.

  • Assistant Chief Constable or Commander.

  • Chief Superintendent.

  • Superintendent.

  • Chief Inspector.

  • Inspector.

  • Sergeant.

  • Constable.

Notwithstanding anything in paragraph (1), in the metropolitan police force ranks other than those specified in that paragraph may be adopted with the approval of the Secretary of State.
