  "heading": "Interpretation.",
  "text": "In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires—\n“authorised officer” means an officer authorised in writing by the licensing authority for the purposes of this Act;\n“controlled district” means any area for which Part II of the 1976 Act is in force by virtue of—\n(a)a resolution by a district council under section 45 of that Act; or\n(b)section 255(4) of the Greater London Authority Act 1999;\n“driver’s badge” means the badge issued to the holder of a London PHV driver’s licence;\n“hackney carriage” means a vehicle licensed under section 37 of the Town Police Clauses Act 1847 or any similar enactment;\n“licensed taxi” means a hackney carriage, a London cab or a taxi licensed under Part II of the 1982 Act;\n“the licensing authority” means Transport for London;\n“London” means the area consisting of the metropolitan police district and the City of London (including the Temples);\n“London cab” means a vehicle licensed under section 6 of the Metropolitan Public Carriage Act 1869;\n“London PHV driver’s licence” means a licence under section 13;\n“London PHV licence” means a licence under section 7;\n“London PHV operator” has the meaning given in section 4(1);\n“London PHV operator’s licence” means a licence under section 2;\n“notice” means notice in writing;\n“operate” has the meaning given in section 1(1);\n“operating centre” has the meaning given in section 1(5);\n“operator” has the meaning given in section 1(1);\n“power-assisted pedicab” means a power-assisted pedal cycle, or a power-assisted pedal cycle in combination with a trailer, that is constructed or adapted for carrying one or more passengers (and for this purpose “trailer” has the same meaning as in the Pedicabs (London) Act 2024 (see section 8 of that Act));\n“prescribed” means prescribed in regulations under section 32(1);\n“private hire vehicle” has the meaning given in section 1(1);\n“public service vehicle” has the same meaning as in the Public Passenger Vehicles Act 1981;\n“road” means any length of highway or of any other road to which the public has access (including bridges over which a road passes);\n“the 1976 Act” means the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1976;\n“the 1982 Act” means the Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982; and\n“vehicle” means a mechanically propelled vehicle , other than a power-assisted pedicab or a tramcar, intended or adapted for use on roads.",
