# The Public Telecommunication System Designation (Nextlink UK Limited) Order 2001, Note: Explanatory note


(This note is not part of the Order)
The Secretary of State granted to Nextlink UK Limited a licence on 5th January 2001 under section 7 of the Telecommunications Act 1984 to run the telecommunication systems specified in the licence. A copy of the licence was laid before Parliament on 18th July 2001. This Order designates those telecommunication systems as public telecommunication systems. Consequently, by virtue of section 9(3) of that Act, Nextlink UK Limited will be a public telecommunications operator when the Order comes into force on 16th August 2001.
