This Order revokes the Redundancy Payments (Merchant Seamen Exclusion) Order 1973 (“the 1973 Order”) which excluded certain employments as a merchant seaman from the redundancy payments provisions of the Employment Protection (Consolidation) Act 1978. The effect of the revocation is to apply those provisions to merchant seamen to whom the 1973 Order applied.
