  "text": "In these Rules, unless the context otherwise requires—\n“the Act” means the Reserve Forces Act 1996;\n“appellant” means a person who makes an appeal to the Tribunal under section 81(4), 83(4) or 84(3) of the Act;\n“the Authority” means the Secretary of State or any person or body duly authorised to make a determination under regulations made under Part VIII of the Act;\n“Chairman” means the Chairman of the Tribunal;\n“determination” means the disposal by the Tribunal of the appeal or of any substantive issue that arises therein;\n“direction” means any order of the Tribunal not being a determination and includes a witness summons;\n“disputed determination” means a determination of the Authority against which an appeal is brought under these Rules;\n“hearing” means a sitting of the Tribunal for the purpose of determining the appeal;\n“party” means the appellant or the Authority;\n“register” means the register of appeals and determinations kept in accordance with these Rules;\n“Secretary” means the person for the time being appointed by the Secretary of State as Secretary of Tribunals and includes any Assistant Secretary or other member of the staff of the Secretary authorised by the Secretary to perform a function or exercise a power of his under these Rules;\n“Tribunal” means a Reserve Forces Appeal Tribunal and “the Tribunal” means the Tribunal to which an appeal is made or transferred or by whom a determination is to be reviewed.",
