# The Sexual Offences (Amendment) Act 2000 (Commencement No. 1) Order 2000, Note: Explanatory note


(This note is not part of the Order)
This Order brings into force the Sexual Offences (Amendment) Act 2000 on 8th January 2001 for England and Wales and Northern Ireland.
The 2000 Act reduces the age at which certain sexual acts are lawful and provides certain defences to under age persons. It also creates a new offence of abuse of a position of trust.
