Explanatory note

These Regulations alter certain amounts specified in the Supplementary Benefit (Requirements) Regulations 1983 for the purpose of determining entitlement to supplementary benefit under the Supplementary Benefit Act 1976. They vary amounts for a person’s normal requirements (regulation 2(2) and (7)). They increase certain allowances for personal expenses for persons in board and lodging accommodation (regulation 2(3)); the weekly amount payable for maintenance and insurance of the home (regulation 2(4)); the reduction to be made in certain payments in respect of housing where the home is occupied by non-dependants (regulation 2(5)); the amount of the non-householder’s contribution (regulation 2(6)); certain amounts of additional requirements relating to diet and the reduction made in certain circumstances to amounts paid in respect of fares for hospital visiting (regulation 2(8)).
