Regulation 9 Technical standards

(1)

In exercising his functions under the Act the Secretary of State and the Director shall ensure that Public Operators take full account of standards listed in the Official Journal of the European Communities in accordance with Article 5 of the ONP Framework Directive as being suitable for the purpose of interconnection.

(2)

In the absence of such standards, the Director shall encourage the provision of technical interfaces for interconnection according to the standards below in order of priority:

(a)

standards adopted by European standardisation bodies such as the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI), or the European Committee for Standardisation/European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardisation (CEN/Cenelec); or in the absence of such standards,

(b)

international standards or recommendations adopted by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) or the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC); or in the absence of such standards,

(c)

any standards or specifications determined by the Director.
