Explanatory note
These Regulations are consequential on the coming into force of section 23(7) of the Merchant Shipping Act 1979 (c. 39) which repeals sections 34–38 of the Merchant Shipping Act 1970 (which related to discipline on board ships registered in the United Kingdom) which have become virtually obsolete. Log books no longer have to contain entries concerning fines under the Disciplinary Offences Regulations, which cease to have effect.
