The Secretary of State, being the relevant national authority under section 66(3)(b) of the Violent Crime Reduction Act 2006f1, makes the following Order in exercise of the powers conferred by section 66(2) of that Act.

1Citation and interpretation

(1)

This Order may be cited as the Violent Crime Reduction Act 2006 (Commencement No. 3) Order 2007.

(2)

In this Order, the “2006 Act” means the Violent Crime Reduction Act 2006.

2Commencement

Section 27 of the 2006 Act (directions to individuals who represent a risk of disorder) shall come into force on 22nd August 2007.

3Commencement

The following provisions of the 2006 Act shall come into force on 1st October 2007—

(a)

sections 21 and 22 (licence reviews);

(b)

section 32 (sales of air weapons by way of trade or business to be face to face);

(c)

section 33 (age limits for purchase etc. of air weapons);

(d)

section 34 (firing an air weapon beyond premises);

(e)

section 36 (manufacture, import and sale of realistic imitation firearms);

(f)

section 37 (specific defences applying to the offence under s.36);

(g)

section 38 (meaning of “realistic imitation firearm”);

(h)

section 39 (specification for imitation firearms);

(i)

section 40 (supplying imitation firearms to minors);

(j)

section 43(1) and (2) (sale etc. of knives and other weapons);

(k)

section 44 (sale etc. of crossbows);

(l)

section 47 (power to search persons in attendance centres for weapons); and

(m)

section 64 (expenses).

4Commencement

The following provisions of the 2006 Act shall come into force on 1st October 2007 to the extent not already in force—

(a)

section 31 (prohibition on sale or transfer of air weapons except by registered dealers);

(b)

section 50 (supplemental provisions for Part 2);

(c)

section 51 (corresponding provision for Northern Ireland) in so far as it relates to the entries in Schedule 2 (weapons etc.: corresponding provisions for Northern Ireland) referred to in sub-paragraph (d);

(d)

in Schedule 2—

(i)

paragraphs 4 to 8; and

(ii)

paragraphs 10, 12 and 14;

(e)

section 65 (repeals) in so far as it relates to the entries in Schedule 5 (repeals) referred to in sub-paragraph (f); and

(f)

in Schedule 5 (repeals) the entries relating to—

(i)

the Firearms Act 1968f1; and

(ii)

the Anti-social Behaviour Act 2003f2.

Explanatory note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order brings into force on 22nd August 2007 section 22 of the Violent Crime Reduction Act 2006. This Order also brings into force on 1st October 2007 the provisions of that Act which are listed in article 3 and (to the extent that they are not already in force) Article 4.
