Explanatory note

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations amend the Wireless Telegraphy (Exemption) Regulations 1999 (S.I. 1999/930, as amended by S.I. 2000/1012) in order to exempt additional wireless telegraphy equipment from the requirement to be licensed under section 1(1) of the Wireless Telegraphy Act 1949 (c. 54). Such equipment are stations established or used and apparatus installed or used in relation to the following systems or services:

(a)

meteor burst data systems;

(b)

Universal Mobile Telephony System;

(c)

CDMA spread spectrum data asset tracking systems;

(d)

public two-way paging systems; and

(e)

Thuraya Land Mobile-Satellite Service.
